Overview

America Reads is a federally funded work-study program. SFSU students are hired as tutors to work in 3rd grade classrooms located in San Francisco schools. America Reads tutors have great opportunities to start their teaching career and gain important skills during their participation with the program.

Job Description

Reading tutors are assigned to one San Francisco school site where they remain for the entire academic year. They meet with school mentors and the campus trainer to develop the most effective literacy plan for each child.

Job Qualifications & Requirements

  1. Work-study eligible
  2. Previous experience with tutoring children
  3. Commitment to work for one year
  4. Available to work 10 hours in the mornings during classroom reading sessions. Tutoring sessions are in the mornings from 9am to noon
  5. Enrolled in a special training class every Tuesday from 1-4pm
